Running

Wow, the comments on my Valentine’s Day entry were really fascinating reads, and I appreciate the effort you guys put into them! Just in case it came across that I hate my family, I’ll clarify that I don’t — in fact they’re generally pretty supportive. We don’t necessarily get along as much as we should, but my parents are generally quite good to me. I feel like an immature teen now, but that’s fine; I am one. I mainly just get the feeling that they don’t understand me, and I’m not really what they (well, my father, anyway) “wanted” , but who really knows.

Also, I’m going to take the fact that I reminded someone of Dexter, as a compliment. And! To anyone who said (500) Days of Summer is good? You are totally right.

So! Today’s topic: I started running today. It wasn’t that fun, but I think I’ll attempt it maybe twice a week. There’s a big park/oval right near my house, so armed with an iPod and earphones, I walked to the park where I alternated between running/jogging and walking for about 20 minutes, whilst sussing out where the drinking fountains were (I found two).

I encountered a few problems. Ideally, it would play out like this:

  • I’d have lighter/shorter shorts that I don’t have to wear a belt with. I might buy a pair for running.
  • I’d have a lighter/smaller iPod. Although I’m not actually going to buy a new one when I have a perfectly-functioning one.
  • The temperature would’ve been lower than 27°C.

But, of course, I managed, and will hopefully enjoy it more in the future

Omg. You ran outside. Thank god you aren’t in QLD atm…the temp today was 42oC!!
All I can say is, GOOD WORK! If you buy one of those ipod holders to put around your arm, they work really well. My iPod classic is amazng but I agree its a bit big but the armbands work really well.

Keep up running. Its good. And because its hot, you’ll sweat more. And that means you get to drink more powerade and that stuff is yummy.

Props to you for starting a running regime! I have a tendency to hyperventilate when I start running (so, um, obviously I don’t do it often) but I really should look at going for walks every evening or something…

I find running for a long time to be so boring D: I like playing sports or having a practice a lot more because the running involved usually has a purpose, which makes it a lot more fun :P

Shorts with a belt? I can’t imagine someone running in that! lol.

Good luck getting into a routine!

@April: 43, oh my! It’s in the 30s at the moment here, so I haven’t been able to run. Well, I could, but it would be kind of torturous! Also, the armband is a good idea; hadn’t thought of that!

@Kaylee: I guess one of the advantages of running is that I don’t have to do it for too long; walking can get boring, but running has more benefits in a shorter amount of time? Also I fail at sport! Oh, and I bought proper shorts now, so that’s good I guess.

I prefer fast walking to running, mainly because running tends to kick up all the pollen and set off my allergies, and then it takes days to settle down even with medication. I’m sort of envious and impressed that you’re setting a running regime! It’s heading into autumn slowly, so the weather should make it more conducive to running!

    Running!
I made a decision to do more running. Unfortunately, it’s -10 C outside right now, so I’ve been confined to the treadmill. (I do prefer running barefoot though, so I guess the treadmill isn’t so bad.) The first days went okay, and ever since, my running has declined… and the quality of excuses has also declined. Now I resort to “But I don’t really want to wash my hair…”

Maybe I’ll pick it up when I can run outside in my socks without my toes changing colours and falling off. curse you, canada..
